Latest Updates from Our Project:

Update: Good, Bad, and sad news.
about 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 22, 2020 at 09:53:10 PM

I hope your all having a safe and healthy quarantine. As you know the world is changing every day; when we emerge from the pandemic, the world will not be the same place. This is also true for us.

Due to the impact of Covid19, our parent company dissolved.  As a result, we have also decided to dissolve B&B Games Studio. The Refuge Terror from the deep, however, will live on. It was an amazing 5 years at B&B and we are so thankful for the followers, opportunity, and all your support.

As far as transition; Floyd Lu, designer and board member of B&B Games Studio has purchased the rights to The Refuge IP.  Now independent from B&B Games Studio, Floyd Lu shall fulfill the orders and has partnered with Funagain games for logistics and sales.

As far as updates, before handing over the assets, the following was completed:

  • Final Payments to the manufacturer were completed.
  • Playmats are manufactured and complete
  • Files and proofs are all finished and undergoing manufacturing.
  • Vega leg position was modified for structural integrity.
  • Arclight has partnered with us to Create a Japanese Version of The Refuge and soft files have been finished.
  • The preorder store in Backerkit was reopened after transferring the rights to Floyd Lu.
  • June 2020 delivery has been pushed back to August 2020 due to Pandemic and tightened logistics.

We all wish you a safe quarantine and thank you.  Images and videos of the progress below.

February Update: Sample Pictures!
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 01, 2020 at 09:30:28 PM

Hi all – we just got samples of all the printed material and miniatures for Refuge: Terror from the Deep

Floyd inspects print samples of the art book

Things are looking pretty good — we had a few small tweaks to correct on miniatures and tokens, but are overall pretty happy with the samples.

Miniatures are looking great. Really happy with the way these are coming out of the molds.

Detailing on Margaret "Mags" Backpack and arm

Miniature detailing is very fine even on unprimed models — even more details will come out if you hit your models with a light coat of primer.

Assembly on one model (Hans) needed to be adjusted — it seems the factory wasn't sure which side of his helmet was the front:

we'll be fixing this

Currently, we're still on track for delivery in June – depending on the time it takes for sample reworks to be approved on the manufacturer's side. We'll keep you informed as we learn more about the situation in China — but as of now, things are looking good.

New Years Update
over 4 years ago – Sat, Jan 04, 2020 at 12:01:50 AM

Happy New Year Everyone!

Floyd is in Japan right now, so I (John) am posting this update even though it's all about his work.

B&B has been staying busy getting pre-press set up with the manufacturer — lots of posting files back and forth like the one below, explaining the unique backs that certain cards have.

No timeline updates to report in this update. The files are pretty much all in and Floyd is staying on top of the project – next major milestone is receiving a printed sample.

Hope everyone is having a great 2020 so far, looking forward to diving into full production soon!

November Update: Manufacturing Timeline and More
over 4 years ago – Thu, Nov 14, 2019 at 02:04:19 AM

The B&B Games team is back from Essen, where we had a limited launch of Folded Wishes and some really great meetings about The Refuge: Terror from the Deep. Thanks to the backers who come by to say hi!

Manufacturing Next Steps:
We're still on track for a June Delivery. We met with our manufacturer during Essen and things are moving along nicely.

We've been delivering our 3D assets to the factory and are going back and forth on finalizing some posing and pre-molding techniques. Here's an early test of Vega from the manufacturer.

sample — not final

Print files are still finalizing, and we'll have those wrapped in the next few weeks.

We'll have our "first shot" samples in January or beginning of February to share with you. That way, we can look at and evaluate the samples during Chinese New Year, and then manufacturing will begin immediately afterward if everything looks good.

Overall — things are looking good!

October Update: Essen and Beyond!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Oct 07, 2019 at 03:13:00 AM

Dive Prep Continues:

On our side, work continues on Terror from the Deep. Cards have been updated and we're continuing to lock things down on the editing side. We're moving forward with our manufacturer. We'll have additional timelining information in November for you.

Layout is mostly completed on the Art Book. You can see a sample page below!

Sample page spread. Text not final

One thing I'm really excited about for the art book is showing what characters look like without their diving helmets on — as the in-game art shows them in their full gear.

Backerkit Update:

We're still missing 150 responses from backers. Please check your spam folders and similar if you haven't filled out your information yet.

"I can't find my pledge manager email!"

We're Headed to Essen (Booth 5k-124):

If you're attending Essen Spiel this October, find B&B Games Studio atbooth 5k124. We'll have demos of Refuge: Terror from the Deep and would love to say hi to our backers!

Beyond:

We've also started testing, art, and sculpting on our next big miniatures game: Kingdom of Ashes.

You're terrifying elder dragons in this epic, dark fantasy area control game.  You unlock your dragon's powerful abilities by devouring humans — but other dragon broods will challenge you for dominance.

Early test 3D print of one of the dragons

We'll be primarily posting up information on this game on its Facebook group if you'd like to follow along.
