Closing out Week One and already 300% funded!
Over 600 divers have joined us in escaping the Kraken and it's anchors away on the next week of the campaign. We're really excited about the backer community we're building for this game — thanks so much for all your support, feedback, and suggestions so far.

This week, B&B Games is headed to Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio. If you're going to be there, please come by the B&B Gammes booth, number 438, say hi, and play some games with us. We'll have playable demos of The Refuge: Terror from the Deep and The Refuge: a Race for Survival all weekend.

Our first achieved social goal unlocked a backer suggested objective. We'd love to hear what fun underwater moments you'd like to see in the game — and we've already seen some really awesome suggestions.
This week, we'll comb through all the suggestions you provide and come up with a top few, then put those back to backers in a poll to vote! The winning suggestion will be built out into a full objective, playtested, and included in every copy of the game.
So start brainstorming!

Another amazing day on the dive – I collected 3 specimens and caught an amazing image of a Cetorhinusmaximus – très magnifique! It's not all roses though: Vega ate my last sandwich, and Michael is just sitting in the corner of the bathysphere brooding and acting really suspicious.
We keep hearing this strange sound on the sonar. There's something big down here.
Really big.
Stretch Goal Unlocked – New Cooperative Objectives:
This set of objective unlocks includes a few of my favorites from playtesting:
Rescue the Stranded Diver requires you to escort a neutral character past the Kraken. Clever timing of your movement will the the stranded diver activate spaces for you – but they can't defend themselves, so be careful!
Lull the Kraken to Sleep involves careful timing of when you eliminate tentacles so you don't wake her up! There are some cool strategies to accomplishing this, but I'll let you figure that out.
Grabber Equipment Test uses the 8 Grabber Salvage cards, which normally aren't used in cooperative play, as a special resource to let you move tentacles around the board.

We're super excited about a Tabletop Simulator build of The Refuge. If we hit this goal, we'll try to get a digital implementation of the core without Stretch Goal content included out to everyone during the campaign.

The Abyssal Kraken is an all new 10 card Kraken AI deck that gives the Kraken terrifying new abilities in Solo and Cooperative dives – she'll swim down into the main section of the board, making devours more dangerous and every tentacle spawn closer to the front of the board – increasing your chance of threat.
As I was typing this update, I got a message from Jambalaya Plays Games, who is going to be doing a video for us later in the campaign.
"We are getting our @%$ kicked but this game is fun as hell…abyss deck is brutal.”
If that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is!
Premium Playmat Unlocked — Available Soon
We just unlocked an add-on purchase that B&B is really excited about: the premium playmat board.
We're finalizing manufacturing details of this add-on, and will make it available for you to add to your pledge as soon as we have a price.
This 18in X 18in double-sided playmat replaces the game board. We want to make sure playing on this thing is going to be AWESOME – so we're trying to line up some manufacturers who can make this really well at small quantities.
This will be available during this Kickstarter, in the Backerkit, and then limited only to B&B Games at conventions.

Kindra Spirit Joins the Dive

Kindra Spirit Unlocked!!!!
We are extremely excited that Kindra is joining the dive – as soon as we got this sculpt back we knew she'd end up many people's favorite mini. One of the best things about making a game set underwater is the incredible action poses – which Kindra takes to an extreme!
Character Story
Kindra Spirit, the Socialite
Age: 32 and lying about it
Origin: Australia
An avid diver, Kindra Spirit is an Australian socialite and actress known for playing the female lead in gangster films. Her film shoots take her all over the world – which gives her a chance to pursue her hobby: treasure hunting. She loves old antiques, sunken treasure, anything that she can find in the deep sea that might make an impressive showpiece in her ever-growing collection.
To escape the media she always dives alone. While on a trip to Scotland, she wanted to get away, deep in the ocean. But she's not the only one after the UB-85's cargo...
Gameplay Style

Kindra is a high-skill cap character who's resilient in the face of danger. Her Camp lets her take risks other divers can't – which you'll need to use to your advantage.
Kindra's Camp action sets up her Camp token on the board. If she is dragged under by a tentacle, she can return to her Camp unharmed.
Perimeter Defense lets you eliminate all tentacles near your camp – useful for clearing your way after a rest in competitive or cleaning up tentacles close to the start row in cooperative.
Treasure Locator will give you a greater selection of Salvage cards – and the chance to recover one of Kindra's other abilities – maybe to move your Camp token or trigger those defenses an extra time.
We include rules in the free promo pack for using the Race for Survival characters in Terror from the Deep, but this reference card provides some quick setup instructions and FAQ for using Terror from the Deep divers to slay zombies in Race for Survival, taking the total number of playable characters for Race for Survival up to 13!
Enter the Abyss:
We're just unlocked the ABYSSAL KRAKEN – an all new terrifying AI for solo and cooperative play. It'll add 10 new cards to the game that replace the standard Kraken deck for a more challenging cooperative dive. More on how that plays tomorrow.
On the Horizon:
The next stretch goal is something we've seen a few people asking about via private message or facebook comment, and was one of the top requested stretch goals in the Facebook community group...
A Kickstarter Exclusive Premium Playmat:
This is still a mockup – but we're excited to make this available as an add-on purchase as soon as we have enough backers to print it. I love moving minis on a nice mat – and we think you will too.
